For the Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi/Russia Avantgarde was commissioned by Volkswagen to contextualize the firm’s values and believes for the occasion, while creating a point of identification for visitors and spectators on-site in Russia.

Creating the first living medal count. –

As a result, Avantgarde built a Volkswagen pavilion including a “living medal count” at the center of Sochi’s Olympic Park. A digital animation on a 540sqm-LED screen in combination with individual choreographies performed by 60 dancers symbolized the changes in the respective countries’ rankings.

The exceptional construction, artistic narrative and live-execution generated a lot of attention not only locally, but as well as in media outlets around the world – reaching over 750 million people worldwide.
